Discovering

This past Sunday was our mission launch for 2008. An excitement grew inside of me as I listened to Pastor Mike Miller talk about our assignments here on earth. It is not a decision, it is a "discovery" as we become more intimate with Jesus. God has a specific plan for each of us to accomplish, whether it be here at home or on the mission field somewhere. I choose to believe for myself that it is both. There is so much to do all around us; right where we live, at home, at the office, at school and in our community. But as I travel around the world, my perspective is clearer. That God loves people, from all walks of life. I think of my close friends Shuan and Michelle who left recently for the Ukraine. Here is a young couple who have given up the pleasures of this life for the sake of others. Their hearts are so big. They have been on a voyage of discovery which involves loving the unloved. And now that voyage has taken them to the Ukraine. The opportunites to love are endless. It is just submitting our lives to allow Christ to love through us. They are a living example for me of Jesus Christ. Lord, enlarge the boundaries of my heart and allow me to love like you, right where I am today. For God so loved the world....

Wondering

Wondering

I am sitting here at my computer just wondering what I am supposed to write on a blog. I do journal, but not for all the world to see. I have a bit of a dilema. My friend is getting married to a man from Scotland and has asked me to take in her fiances family for 1 week while they are here in Nova Scotia. I was delighted to be able to entertain someone from across the ocean. But what do I cook for them? Do I cook traditional turkey dinner or roast beef or lasagna? Certainly not haggis!! Apples are in season and I have large stores of handpicked blueberries on hand, so dessert will not be a problem. I do not want them leaving with a feeling that my cooking was bland. But I am not even sure if their taste buds prefer spicy foods. My husband is a fly fisherman so I have lots of salmon in the freezer caught fresh on the Margaree river this summer. But I myself have been to India twice and prefer exotic curry vegtable dishes. I could ask my friend what they prefer but I would like to surprise them with my flare for cooking. LOL. I just purchased a brand new convection oven so I am wanting to cook some gourmet meals to test this appliance out. I hear they take a bit of getting used to with the temperature differences. I am sure with a few days of internet researching I will come up with a menu plan. I will let you know how it turns out. The sad part in all of this, is that my friend will be moving to Scotland with her husband. But I hear it is beautiful there. My ancestors are from Cootehill, Ireland. Maybe it is time to take a trip!!
